You may be eyeing that summer calendar, dreaming of the perfect getaway, but did you know summer is the perfect time to take college courses? Summer Session isn’t the dreaded summer school of your youth. There are some worthwhile advantages.
See why so many students take advantage of it:
- Summer session is a good way to graduate on time.
If you aren’t taking 15 credits per semester, you may not graduate on time. Only about 42 percent of first-time, full-time college students do, according to the US Department of Education. Summer Session is a good way to stay on track. And with more than 400 online classes, you’ll have plenty of options.
- Summer course enrollment is on the rise.
You won’t be alone in your Summer Session courses. Last summer, thousands of undergraduates took online summer courses through UNCG. These courses are designed to be interactive, so you’ll get to know your instructor and classmates online.
- Short sessions don’t take all summer.
Don’t want to spend all summer hitting the books? UNCG’s Summer Session is divided into two short sessions—take one or both. You’ll still have time for work and fun. You can log in at your favorite lunch spot or anywhere else you have an Internet connection.
- You can save money.
Summer Session can help you save money by helping you graduate in four years. UNCG offers fixed tuition to NC residents, but the fixed rate is only guaranteed for four years. If you don’t graduate within that time frame, you may pay a higher tuition rate.
- You can still use financial aid.
There is no separate application for summer aid. You just need to be registered for summer session and meet eligibility requirements to be considered. If you receive financial aid during the fall and spring semesters, make sure you have funds available for Summer Session. Pell Grants can also be used for Summer Session.
